When the case against the doctor at Sri Jayawardenapura hospital who raped a pregnant mother was taken up at the Colombo Magistrate courts, the Magistrate Devika Tennakoon had given bail to the doctor for a surety of Rs 10 lakhs
The incident had occurred over four years ago when the pregnant lady had been taken to a lonely room by the doctor on call early morning in the pretext of examining her, had tried to rape her. The doctor had pleaded not guilty for the several charges made against him. This was the reason the doctor Vishan Jayashantha Paranamana was allowed bail by the Magistrate.
