Law Entrance exam papers leaked in Wellawatta
A mock exam paper, similar to the Law Entrance examination paper, was distributed prior to the entrance exam at an institute in Wellawatta, President of the Law Entrance Students Union, Ramzi Bajja, alleged yesterday.
"We received strong evidence a mock exam paper, similar to the Law College Entrance Exam paper, was distributed prior to the exam in an Institute in Wellawatta. We lodged a complaint with the CID (Criminal Investigation Department). Students filed a Petition at the Human Rights Commission. We intend to meet the Commissioner of Examinations today (9) regarding the issue," he said.
He also said, they lodged a complaint on 19 December with the CID in relation to the unreliability of the results, after taking into consideration previous and current statistics.
"Some 133 students, out of the total of 432 Tamil medium students, received entry while only 155 students from the 6,764 Sinhala medium students were selected. Also 21 out of 309 English medium students have been chosen. The top marks have been earned by the Muslim students," Bajja pointed out.
He also alleged, "In 2011, 51 Muslim candidates out of 238 passed the exam and in 2012, 78 Muslim candidates out of 309 candidates passed. Most of these candidates have done the exam in the Tamil medium. In 2008, only 14 Muslim candidates out of 242 passed. Since Rauff Hakeem took over the portfolio of the Minister of Justice, the number of Muslim students who passed the exam has increased alarmingly. We suspect the question paper was leaked to them or, examiners have been favouring those candidates with political influence. This is an injustice to the other students and it clearly is evident it is an injustice even to the Muslims who are not politically influential or who did not attend the particular class in Wellawatta."
Police Spokesman, SSP Prishantha Jayakody said, "Police have received several written complaints from many candidates, doubting the transparency of the results and the police are conducting investigations."
