Cinnamon Lakeside Tennis from Nov. 26 to Dec. 6
The annual open ranking tennis championship conducted by Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo is scheduled to be worked off from November 26 at the hotel clay courts. This competition is being held for the third successive year.
The tournament is conducted with blessings of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) and is a ‘B’ grade ranked tournament by the SLTA which is conducted by the Powerdrome, the hotel’s Health and Fitness Club.
This was revealed by Denis Gruhier, General Manager of Cinnamon Lakeside at a press briefing held at the hotel premises. The tournament is due to end on December 6.
Gruhier speaking further stressed that the tournament has become a popular event among the top Sri Lanka tennis players which has been conducted according to the rules and regulations of the International Tennis Federation and the SLTA code of conduct.This year, for the first time, the organizers have been able to rake in a sponsor with Standard Chartered Bank coming forward to support them which is a big boost.
Last year the tournament attracted nearly 400 entries and the organisers this time out are expecting more than 500 which will include the cream of tennis players in Sri Lanka including national players in the men and women’s categories.
The tournament will be held for all age groups including for those who are under the age group of 10 years. Attractive cash awards await the winner apart from the trophies that has been slotted out to be awarded.
Co-sponsor 3G Sports will be provide the tennis balls to be used during the tournament. They will also present tennis equipment for the winners. Anjoun Subramaniam has been appointed as the SLTA Match Referee while N.S. Jayashantha is the Tournament Director appointed by the organisers Cinnamon Lakeside.
Last year Thangarajah Dineshkanthan, one of Sri Lanka’s up-and-coming tennis player was the champion in the men’s category while Roshanka Fernando bagged the women’s title. The draw is scheduled to be held on November 24
