Last year, a record high is reported for cases of women rape and childe abuse. According to  Sri Lanka News, in comparison to 2011, womens’ rape has increased by 33 percent . In 2011, there were 1440 cases of womens’ rape , while in 2012 it has gone up to  1920, recording an increase of 480 rape cases from the previous year.

In 2012, 780 cases of severe sexual abuse has been reported , of which 732 are child abuse cases. . In 2011, there were  608 cases of severe  child abuse, and 28 cases for women. 

Thus, the year 2012, is a record year for both child abuse and womens’ rape.
