New American Ambassador arrives in Sri Lanka today
The new Ambassador designate of the United States to Sri Lanka and Maldives Michele Sison is scheduled to arrive in the island today.
Michele Sison has introduced herself to the Sri Lankan public in a video.
The video produced by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Information Programs introduces Ambassador Sison as a "big believer in the power of civil society".
The new diplomat says that she plans to "identify new opportunities to work together in promoting trade, economic development and business," and assures that environmental protection and climate change adaptation are top priorities for the U.S. Embassy.
She served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South Asian Affairs, charged with providing broad policy oversight of U.S. relations with Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal.
