Cobra girl asks Court to acquit her
Lawyers appearing for ‘cobra girl’ Nirosha Wimalaratne submitted court today that their client be discharged and acquitted from the case.
Lawyers appearing for Nirosha Wimalaratne alias Dilani popularly known as the cobra girl, submitted that the charge sheets filed against their client should not be signed by the Magistrate and asked Court that she be discharged and acquitted from the case.
President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne with Wasantha Batagoda made this submission before Colombo Fort Magistrate after filing written submissions against the charges brought by Kollupitiya Police that she committed an offence under Sec. 2(1)(b) read with 2(1) of the Cruelty to Animals Act No.13 of.1907 by possessing a snake whose fangs have been removed.
Further magisterial inquiry into the matter was fixed for September 26. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
