31 Colombo schools closed for CHOGM
The Education Ministry today said 31 schools in Colombo would be temporarily shut down for 13 days in November, to implement a comprehensive security plan for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in November this year.
Education Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake said the schools - as listed - would be shut down from November 6-19. He said during recent discussions between the Ministry and officials of the Commonwealth Secretary General’s Office it was agreed that a selected number of schools would be temporarily closed during the CHOGM.
He further said the security plan would be implemented to ensure security for the high profile diplomats who were expected to visit the country during the Commonwealth meeting, including world leaders and foreign diplomats.
He added that the Ministry had discussed with the school Principals to schedule dates for extra lessons for their students. (OJ)
