Beware of bright yellow bananas

National Organizer of the Bakery Owners' Association, Asela Sampath, warned the consumers to be extra careful when buying bananas, as the amount of chemicals used to ripen bananas has been increased.
He claimed traders use chemicals to make the peel of fruit a bright yellow to dupe the consumers.
"These chemicals can cause kidney failure. Since the demand for bananas goes up during festive season, traders resort to this trick," Sampath alleged, adding, "Traders don't use traditional methods to make fruits ripen as it takes a considerable time."
