'Heavy traffic' runs down UGC web
The website of the University Grants Commission (www.ugc.ac.lk) which posted the Z-scores of the 2011/2012 GCE A/L exams on Saturday (9) has been inaccessible due to heavy traffic, since the scores were posted. Separate minimum Z-scores have been released for the new and old syllabi. Additional Secretary of the UGC, Dr. Priyantha Premakumara confirming that the website cannot be accessed, said admission letters will be posted to the students by 15 March, as the process is time consuming as the UGC would be sending 'original copies' and not 'photocopies'.
"The university that each student will be selected to for the particular courses of study will be published in the UGC website in two days and the students will be admitted to universities in the last week of March," he explained.
Separately, the UGC announced 65,000 applications have been received for university admission for the academic year 2011-2012.
A senior UGC official said about 27,000 will be enrolled according to their results at the GCE A/L exam conducted in 2011.
He also said the UGC would be selecting students who sat the GCE A/L in 2012, to the universities, before the end of 2013.
