22 people dead this year from HIV
The Health Ministry stated that 22 people have died this year from AIDS.
The ministry further stated that 134 people diagnosed with HIV, of whom 52 are children. Children get the virus when mothers infected with it give birth. The first HIV patient in Sri Lanka was found in 1981 and a total of 1597 patients have been found, and 275 of whom have died.
The health ministry further stated that that the disease increases due to the tourism industry, use of drugs, homosexual behavior, and immigration.
