The Ministry of Higher Education says that following a request from the subject minister, lecturers are now returning to universities.

Its Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne said that accordingly they were able to reopen several faculties in the Colombo, Ruhunu and Peradeniya universities. 

Secretary to the Ministry further noted that more lecturers will return to universities within the course of today and tomorrow after abandoning their trade union action. 

He went on to say that the government is initiating steps after accepting 5 out of 6 proposals and if the Federation of University Teachers' Association accepts this and works alongside each other it will be a positive trend.
