Work on foundation of Lotus Tower begins

The construction work on the Raft Foundation Concrete Pouf of 5000 m3 of the Colombo Lotus Tower (Nelum Kuluna) took place today (09) morning.
 The Chairman of Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, Lalith Weeratunga, visited the area at around 9.00 a.m. to observe this event.
  The foundation to the multifunctional tower, on D. R. Wijewardene Mawatha, was laid by the Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga early this year.  
 The tower is to be completed on the 15 March 2015 with nine floors.
 The total cost of the project is USD 104 million from which 85% or USD 88.665 million which be funded by the EXIM Bank of China. The payback period of this is seven years with the interest at 4.5% and 14 years with the interest at 7%.

It is reported that the total land extend of the tower is 2.75 Ha (6.8 acres) and 350m in height.

The Building space of the tower base usage is as follows; basement with service plants and kitchen, first floor with entrance hall and lobby, second floor commercial and shopping, third floor conference and events, roof top and open area for event.

In addition to this there will be revolving restaurant, state guest house, banquet halls and TV and Radio Broadcasting equipment rooms.
