12 illegally-employed foreign women arrested
Twelve foreign women, who were working in two night clubs in Colombo, were taken into custody in a joint operation conducted by the Department of Immigration and Emigration and the Colpetty Police.
A senior police officer said six Chinese women were arrested at a karaoke club and six Thai women were taken into custody at another famous night club in Colombo. The women have arrived in the country on tourist visas.
The women are currently under the custody of the Department of Immigration and Emigration and the Colpetty Police are conducting further investigations. "They will be blacklisted and deported to their respective countries after the investigations are over," the official said. On Wednesday, police arrested 11 Nepali women employed in various hotels and night clubs in Colombo. They too had come here on tourist visas. They are also being held by the Department of Immigration and Emigration and will be deported to Nepal once the investigations are over.
