'No move to privatise People's Bank'
The government categorically refuting certain media reports on a move to privatise People's Bank, stated that all such news was wrong and baseless speculation.
Government Information Director General Prof. Ariyaratne Athugala in a release on Saturday said privatising is against government policies, adding that there is no truth in the claim that the government has decided to privatise People's Bank.
The release said during the previous Cabinet press briefing, Cabinet spokesman and Mass Media and Information
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella only stated that abinet has granted approval to expand the capital base of People's Bank.
"This statement had been misinterpreted by certain media," the release added.
