Brothel raided, secret cameras seized

Gampaha Police raided a brothel following a tip-off yesterday and seized a number of cameras hidden inside the rooms.
The police said the cameras were used to record clandestine sexual encounters inside the rooms and were believed to have been used to blackmail the clients.
Five individuals were arrested including three women, the owner and his wife, who was the manager of the brothel, which had been operating under the guise of a massage clinic.
According to the police, the women were recruited as masseurs for a meagre wage and later offered better pay in return for their service as commercial sex workers.
A computer and a large number of video tapes were also seized and the police have initiated investigations to find whether the tapes contain obscene material.
The raid was conducted by Gampaha Headquarters IP, Charitha Jayasundara, under the supervision of SP Vijitha D. Commasaru.
The Western Province Intelligence Division had furnished the necessary information for the raid. SI Gayan Rajakaruna, SI Dinesh Jayaratne, SI Gayantha Karawita, SI Chamkara, PCs Thusitha Ekanayake (81917), Ginasekera (175) and WPC Madhawi (2162) conducted the raid.
