Don't send Sri Lankan women to foreign countries as housemaids - JHU
Colombo: Sri Lanka's Sinhala Buddhist party, Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) urged the government to stop sending Sri Lankan women to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries for domestic labor.
The leader of the JHU Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero issuing a statement said the execution of the Sri Lankan housemaid Rizana Nafeek by the Saudi government should be utilized to take the crucial decision to halt the employment of unskilled Sri Lankan women in foreign countries.
JHU points out that, employing the women of the country under these situations is an insult to the nation and also a breach of rights and respect for women.
JHU also demanded the government to take actions to send only skilled male workers for foreign employment and also to prevent labor migration to countries where religious fundamentalism is prevailing.
