New Frequencies For The ABC Radio Network
Hiru FM, Gold FM, Sun FM, Sooriyan FM, Sun FM and Shaa FM
Sri Lanka’s largest and most innovative radio network, Asia Broadcasting Corporation Private Limited., (ABC) changed to its new frequency,staying in-line with the new regulations introduced by the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (SLTRC) to develop a new FM broadcast frequency plan as of the 1st of November. Hiru FM / Gold FM / Sun FM / Sooriyan FM /Sun FM and Shaa FM, a part ofRayynor Silva Holdings took helm with their new frequencies this month and continued to revolutionize the industry.
Dominating the English, Sinhala and Tamil channels through the years, the network looks on to bringing more entertainment and the most informed independent news to their listeners with the new frequencies. Always being trendsetters in the English radio industry, Sri Lanka’s leading youth station Sun FMhas now moved to 98.9, while Sri Lanka’s first ever English oldies channel,Gold FMnow airson 93. In the Sinhala radio industry,Shaa FMSri Lanka’s First Youth Channel will now broadcast on 90.6 whilst Sri Lanka’s number one Sinhala channelHiru FMairs live from 96.1.Sri Lanka’s first ever private Tamil channel, Sooriyan FMwill nowbroadcast on 103.6.
Commenting on the move to the new frequencies, Rayynor Silva, Chairman, Asia Broadcasting Corporation stated: ‘‘ On behalf of the Asia Broadcasting Corporation, I would like to congratulate the SLTRC for devising the new FM radio frequency network, ensuring that all listeners will have better clarity and quality countrywide. I would like to commend the change headed by the His Excellency President MahindaRajapaksa, the Secretary to President LalithWeeratunga and TRC Director General AnushaPalpita. This is a historic moment in the Sri Lankan radio industry and ABC looks forward to continuing our long standing commitment to being the pioneers in the industry, creating a benchmark for radio excellence in Sri Lanka.’’
Today, each radio station a part of the Asia Broadcasting Corporation Private Ltd has secured the number one slot in its targeted segment whether in English, Sinhala or Tamil. Selected as the preferred channel by avid radio listeners in Sri Lanka, the network has accumulated an extensive loyal listener base with Hiru FM being recognized at the MACO Awardsas the island’s most popular radio channel of the year surpassing all radio stations in the country. The network also sees the re-launch of Shaa FM this month. The station has already achieved many accolades in the previous years, having provided listeners with the most outstanding music genres.
