MAXI PRIEST TO HEADLINE SLPL OPENING CEREMONY
The opening ceremony of Sri Lanka’s very first Premier League promises to be a night to remember with a dazzling array of international and local performers taking the stage. The ceremony will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on Friday, the 10th of August.
A spectacular stage, a host of surprise performances, a line up of renowned artists and a crowd of over 1500, it will undoubtedly be one of the most grandeur events of late.
Speaking about the event at a press briefing, Reenie Mansata, who has been extensively involved in the creative and branding aspects of the SLPL stated, “The stage will have the largest LED structure that has ever been built in Sri Lanka so far.” Better known for her stage performances and now for being the main creative force behind the SLPL’s theme song, this Mumbai based Indian singer-songwriter and pop artist after having launched her career in music in New York, will be performing at the event with a special guest appearance by Bollywood’s celebrity actor and star, Vivek Oberoi. Reenie’s last album, titled “Reenie” fusing eastern and western music released in India through India’s oldest and most reputed record label, HMV Saregama. She will be working the stage with Vivek on one of her upbeat and foot tapping songs from this album called “Aaja Naach Mere Saath”.
Renowned reggae vocalist Maxi Priest will be the headlining performance of the night. The artist best known for his RnB style reggae performances and his hit singles “Close to you” and “Wild World”.
The international line up will also include London-based singer, songwriter and producer of Sri Lankan origin, ARJUN who’s sound is carved out of UK urban culture: a new-age blend of smooth R&B, Funky House and Garage, all with an Asian twist. He will be performing a customized version of Kolaveri at the ceremony.
Popular local duo and SLPL’s Brand Ambassadors, Bathiya and Santhush, who have lent their voice amongst other top artists to the SLPL team anthem, will also be performing. In a media statement they said, ‘ As brand ambassadors, we are honored to be associated with a Sri Lankan brand which is set to take Sri Lanka to the world and bring the world to Sri Lanka.”
Cricketing personality and commentator, Ramiz Raja and former Ms. Sri Lanka Stephanie Siriwardhana will host the evening’s proceedings.
The event will also feature the formal introduction of the participating teams, along with their team owners and team captains.
