11 underaged girls molested by teacher

A 45-year-old teacher who had allegedly sexually molested 11 underaged schoolgirls at a school in Galkiriyagama, Kekirawa, was remanded by the Kekirawa Magistrate.
The suspect who has been identified as a father of two, was ordered to be remanded till 22 May after he was produced before Acting Magistrate, Vipula Wikramanayake, on Saturday (11).
An investigation to apprehend the suspect was initiated on Wednesday (8), following a complaint lodged with the Galkiriyagama Police, by the mother of one of the victimized girls.
The mother, who had observed blood stains on her daughter’s school uniform, had questioned the child who had disclosed details about the sexual molestation by the teacher in question, police sources said.
It was reported the school teacher had fled the area a few hours after the police had launched the manhunt to apprehend him. While the search for the suspect had intensified, he had surrendered to the police through his counsel.
The police had uncovered details of how the suspect had molested nine-year-old girls inside his office after school hours, when children stayed back for tuition classes, which are conducted free of charge. Reportedly, the suspect had been continuously sexually molesting under-aged girls for the past few months.
The suspect will be produced at the Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court on 22 May.
