Arrested for alleged sexually harassment
The 22-year-old victim in his complaint to the Slave Island police said he was a resident of Embilipitiya and had come to Colombo seeking a job as a Mason. He said that he was able to find a job at a building construction site in Nawam Mawatha, Colombo 2. The victim told police that he was compelled to dial emergency telephone number 119 since he was sexually harassed by a security officer attached to the same workplace while he was sound asleep at night.
Police had arrested the suspect, a resident of Dematagoda and produced him before the Colombo Fort Magistrate. The Slave Island police alleged that the suspect, the security officer, had committed a punishable offence that comes under section 345 of the Penal Code. Police further alleged that he had also committed an unnatural offence which comes under section 365 of the Penal Code.
When the suspect was produced before Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya, he was ordered to be rleased on a surety bail of Rs.50, 000. ( Janith Dilshan - Colombo City Life News )
