A Bra For $695? Yes, If It Has the Playboy Tag
Playboy and Cushnie et Ochs have collaborated to design a limited edition leather bra that will retail for $695. This dominatrix inspired bra seems to be something right out of "Fifty Shades of Grey" and is targeted at those who prefer sultry and edgy designs.
"Playboy is such a quintessential brand," Women's Wear Daily quoted Carly Cushnie. "They told us where they're heading and the sort of people they had been working with, like Jenne Lombardo and Neville Wakefield, and we thought we could do something really cool and edgy and special."
On a similar note, Michelle Ochs too added that this collaboration gave them an opportunity to mix the seductive and feminine qualities of Cushnie et Ochs's designs with Playboy's signature playful sensuality.
Playboy's collaboration with Cushnie et Ochs is the first in a series of designer collaborations, probably in an attempt to get into the high-fashion market, of which Cushnie et Ochs is a leader. Interestingly, this might be one of the reasons why the Cushnie et Ochs' bra is priced at this steep rate.
Talking about the bra, Nika Mavrody of the Fashion Spot wrote that though actual women such as herself would want to buy this design, ''still, I'm a small fortune away from ever purchasing a bra (no matter who drew the sketches) that costs $695, especially from an online store that also sells tuxedo panties."
Meanwhile, Lucky Magazine points out that it makes perfect sense for Playboy to collaborate with the likes of Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs as "these ladies are known for their ultra-sexy designs, which frequently feature daring cutouts and lots of leather."
For instance, the duo's 2012 Fall Collection feature a number of bodycon dresses that have a darker, sinister feel. Their inspiration was "The Skin I Live In," a Spanish psychological thriller film by Pedro Almodovar, and the dresses featured "precise cutouts, sculptural flaps, zipped-up layers, and undulating drapes - all meant to invoke the skill of a sociopathic plastic surgeon," Fashionologie reported.
