Telegram service to terminate
The government has announced that the telegram service that has hitherto been conducted in coordination between the Postal department and the Sri Lanka Telecom is to be terminated.
The Minister of telecommunication and information technology Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has added that the telegram service would be terminated before end of October this year.
The Minister added that the land and mobile phones have increased to unprecedented levels and hence the need of the telegram service would be of no use as there is hardly a demand for it and hence it is not practical.
The telegram service has a history of 155 years in this country.
