After shooting Bharatha, Duminda had shot himself
On the 8th October 2011 on the day of the provincial council elections, Duminda who had arrived with his supporters to a place near a polling station had attacked the women who were there was confessed by a police constable who gave evidence in the Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra murder case heard yesterday.
The Police constable D.Damith Suranga Kumara gave evidence in regard to the killing of five persons including Bharatha Lakshman Premachadra at the Colombo Magistrate courts.
The Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage allowed the police constable to read out his statement made to the Police while giving his evidence. While giving his evidence he added that Duminda Silva had come to that scene with about eight others whom he thought were all body builders.
All of them had fire arms in their possession. They were after drinks and he had noticed that the Member of Parliament were also drunken state.
He confirmed that he and the other constable who was near to him had seen these persons who assaulted the women who were near the polling station. The Police constable Damith Suranga added that he and the other constable did not make any effort to stop them from assaulting them.
A villager who was their told that although “sirs why are your just keeping quiet while we are been assaulted.”One of the persons who came with Duminda threatened me by pointing his gun to my heart told me to be quiet”. Hence he had kept silent he told the courts.
After his confession the Additional magistrate asked this constable whether he has any other things to add or to remove from his statement.
“He added that Bharatha was shot, Duminda had shot himself was confessed by those present in courts”. I do not agree with that as I did not see such a thing was quipped the Police constable. Other than that the Police constable added that they are all correct and nothing else needs to be removed.
The Additional Magistrate asked the witness whether he could indentify the two 5 ½ feet tall persons with arms who were at that scene are here in courts as suspects.. The Police constable said he cannot confirm that as he could not properly recollect.
The case would be heard again on the 2nf of August.
