Singer John Legend's proposal almost ruined by Sri Lankan airport official
Singer John Legend's surprise proposal to model Chrissy Teigen was almost ruined by a meticulous Sri Lankan airport officer when he searched the singer's bag at the Colombo airport.
The couple was on the way to Maldives for a vacation in 2011 and when they transited at the Colombo airport where the officer has searched the bag that had the ring while Teigen was standing next to him.
However, the airport employee had stopped short of opening the box with the ring just as when Legend was thrown into a panic, he told the Glamour magazine.
"The most difficult thing was hiding the ring. When we were going through airport security in Sri Lanka, the officials were poking around my bag and almost asked to look inside the box where the ring was, as Chrissy was standing right next to me," Legend was quoted as saying.
"Luckily, they had a change of heart. Who knows, if they had opened the box then, I'd be telling the story of how I proposed to her in Colombo airport."
The couple, together for seven years and engaged since 2011, plans to wed later this year.
