A racket has commenced to sell degrees for Rs 15 lakhs per year
Inter University Students Federation says that the government has started selling the degree under the cover of giving scholarships to overseas students and has pruned the opportunity of the Sri Lankan students to get a degree from a government university. in Sri Lanka
The convener of the federation Sanjeewa Bandara says that as the first step they has started offering scholarships to students abroad.
He further said that there are thousands of students who scored higher marks but can’t enter the universities. The government has no plan for them but, they offer scholarships focusing the tourism industry.
“Inside this there is no plan of taking the Sri Lankan universities to the international level or to enhance the standards of them” he added.
The students of Peradeniya Medical faculty have started a protest against selling the degree for 15 lakhs per year.
