Various tactics to avoid animals and birds entering the Mattala airport
The environment and wild life protection department had said that after the recently constructed Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa International airport has made to flout many international regulations in order to functioning the Mattala airport smoothly.
They are mainly the hindrance to animals and birds. Which are against the laid down regulations for the animals and preservation of the environment? Sri Lanka are bound to lose the aid given for the preservation and development of the environment owing to the methods that have adopted to avoid the invasion of animals who come from the jungles aroung and so many birds that fly from the East.
Director of Protection of the Environment Sajeewa Chamikara said that foreign aid for granted for protection of wild life are also will be in danger and may be deprived in future because of this reasons.
He pointed out that various protective activities are being implemented to avoid difficulties faced by flights when landing and taking off as this is Eastern birds entrance route which run through the Mattala airport.
He had said that birds are being tried not to come to airport area by lighting crackers and destroying the places where they have their food ,ponds and small lakes- It has been planned to build a electric fence to prevent the entry of wild animals to the airport premises built within 2000 hectares of land..
