63-year-old man and son arrested for rape

The Peradeniya Police had arrested a 63-year-old man along with his 19-year-old son on charges of rape committed on the four-year-old daughter of the second wife of the man. They were produced before the Kandy Courts and remanded for 14 days.
The 63-year-old man who resides at Kalugamuwa, Peradeniya, has a son (19), by his first marriage. After his wife had left him, he had married another woman who has a four-year-old daughter. The second wife too had left him.
After his second wife had left him, he had lived with his son who is 19 years and the four-year-old girl of his second wife. Sources said the man works in a religious centre. Returning home after work, invariably in a state of inebriation, he had been regularly sexually molesting the girl, it was alleged. The neighbours who had got to know of ongoing sexual practice had lodged a complaint with the Peradeniya Police.
Consequent to the arrest, when the police had been recording his statement, the little girl had related to the police that the boy who lives in the house had also sexually molested her on a number of occasions.
When the young girl was subjected to a medical examination it was established she had been raped, and she is suffering from a sexually transmitted disease.
The OIC of the Peradeniya Police, Jaliya Heenkanda, instructed by Senior DIG of the Central Province, H.N.B. Ambanwala, is conducting further investigations.
