Hair Art on a New Level at the Sunsilk - Ramani Fernando Hair & Beauty Academy Graduation
The Sunsilk Ramani Fernando Hair and Beauty Academy along with their long term project partner Sunsilk, the flagship hair care brand of Unilever, Sri Lanka, held their 8th graduation ceremony and hair show, which portrayed the artistic talents of the students, at the Galadari.
The award ceremony this year saw 101 students graduate with a diploma in hair and beauty care from both the Colombo and Kandy Academies. Special awards were given to the Best Sunsilk Student, the Best Fantasy Creation and for the Best Dressed ladies and gentlemen. Along with these special awards, the International Gold Medal winning lecturer Mrs. Lucky Lenagala also received her award from City & Guilds.
With the theme, 'Hair Art 2013', the spectacular event had the students' creations being categorized into four themes, 'Bling – the 2013 Brazilian Beat', 'Man power – Power Dressing', 'Bridal Show Stoppers' and 'Fantasy – Fantasia Wearable Art'. The graduating students showcased their talents on 70 models at a fashion show which was choreographed and produced by the well known fashion guru, Senaka De Silva. Mr Amal Cabraal, Chairman of Unilever Sri Lanka was the Chief Guest at the event. While the Guest of Honour was Hon. Mrs. Rosy Senanayake, many special guests such as Mr. Hemalallindre Ranawake (Koluu), Ms. Sangeetha Weerarathna, Mr. Ramzi Rahaman, Mr. Lou Ching Wong, Mr. Kirthi Sri Karunaratne, Mr. Sanath Jayasuriya and Mr. Hashan Tillakaratne were present at the event.
Delivering the keynote address, Ms. Ramani Fernando, CEO and Managing Director, Ramani Fernando Salons said, “I am delighted to once again host our annual graduation ceremony for the 8th consecutive year. Sunsilk, our loyal and dedicated partner over the past eight years has helped us redefine the standards of hair and beauty therapy in Sri Lanka. I must say that our students have worked exceptionally hard and showcased their creativity to the fullest through varying hairstyles. I take this opportunity to thank Unilever Sri Lanka, Senaka De Silva, Lucky Lenagala, the Academy Team, the lecturers and students of the Academy for contributing towards yet another glamorous graduation ceremony”.
Mr. Asanga Ranasinghe, Director Marketing- Home and Personal Care, Unilever Sri Lanka Ltd, speaking on the partnership said, “The Sunsilk – Ramani Fernando Academy partnership is an initiative we have taken to encourage men and women to become independent entrepreneurs in a fast evolving profession. Sunsilk offers 25 scholarships every year to aspiring young individuals, and this empowerment project has enabled many youngsters to nurture their talent and contribute to the hair industry in Sri Lanka. It is a great pleasure to see our Sunsilk Scholarship winners graduating. Giving these individuals the opportunity to follow their dream and assisting them to become economically independent, is a service that Sunsilk does to the beauty industry and the society as a whole.”
The Sunsilk- Ramani Fernando Hair and Beauty Academy is renowned for its outstanding training and the broad range of educational and industry opportunities offered by it. Students are inspired to explore their passion in creativity and develop their talent to help them embark on a pleasant and rewarding career in the beauty and hairdressing industry.
Speaking to M.H. Halil Rahuman, a Sunsilk scholarship recipient from Badulla stated, “I received this scholarship through the Sunsilk Hair Experts workshop which was organized by Sunsilk. In spite of many failed attempts of getting the Sunsilk scholarship, I still believed in my dream to study at the Ramani Fernando Hair and Beauty Academy. I knew my only way forward was to become a Sunsilk scholarship recipient and gain entrance to the Academy. I want to take this opportunity to thank Sunsilk, from Unilever Sri Lanka for giving me an opportunity to pursue my dreams in the hairdressing industry. Apart from the extensive and engaging training done by the Ramani Fernando Hair and Beauty Academy, this prestigious programme has taught me many life lessons”. While Halil Rahuman, was placed first in the Bridal category at the Sunsilk Hair Experts workshop, upon completion of the training course he was also adjudged the best Sunsilk scholarship student of the Academy.
The graduation hair show is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents and creative ability at the end of their course year. Theannual hair show by the graduates of the Sunsilk - Ramani Fernando Hair Academy is an event looked forward to by many. The styles, colours and flamboyant displays are fascinating and inspiring.
