A Harbour without ships, an Airport without planes in distorted Sri Lanka-Dayasiri
A distorted Sri Lanka in Asia having a harbour devoid of ships, Airport without planes, never seen in Asia
It is to go into history books that in Asia there is a country having a harbour where ships do not arrive, an airport where planes do not land or take off and international Cricket grounds where the lights system fail while an International match is in progress. These have made the country distorted was stressed by the UNP Member of Parliament for the Kurunegala district Dayasiri Jayasekara.
He has further added that the authorities of the Mattala airport had failed even to have in their possession petrol tanks to store petrol. It has come down to such low level type of planning.
A sum of Rs 2400 million had been spent on the construction of the Mattala airport but they had perhaps forgotten the need for petrol storage tanks to be constructed or installed. The petrol has to be transported from the Hambanthota harbour to the Mattala airport. Until their arrival panes have to be delayed in taking off. Hence these are the scenes that have erupted?
In our country we have only about 10 lakhs of passengers. In London there are 65 to 75 lakhs of passengers. We have 4 terminals for the 10 lakhs of passengers, while the Heathrow airport has only 6 terminals for the estimated 65 to 75 lakhs of passengers. Hence we did not have the luxury of another airport. Of course we needed another air strip.
According to plans Sri Lanka expects to have an additional 10 lakhs of passengers to arrive here by the year 2025 That is after 13 years. Hence the necessity of another airport is not a priority. This proves that this had been an unnecessary expense.
