Law College registration postponed
The Law College has postponed by one week the registration of new students for the year 2013, in the wake of protests and clashes following reports of alleged irregularities during the college’s entrance exam.
The decision was announced this morning by the principal of the law college, secretary of the law faculty students’ union Eranda S. Wanasinghe said.
The institute had commenced the process of enrolling the 309 students selected through the entrance exam held in August 2012.
155 Sinhala medium students, 133 Tamil medium students and 21 English medium students had gained entry to the law College.
However the law faculty students’ union alleging a majority of those selected to enter law college were Muslim students had carried out protest campaigns in the past several days while a protest march was held yesterday (07).
They had marched towards the law college from Fort while clashes between police and protestors erupted in front of the institution, when they attempted to hand over petition to the principal.
Under this situation it has been decided to postpone the registration of the new intake for one week.
