Do not mix Tamil lyrics into Anthem
The Maha Sangha will not tolerate a National Anthem containing words from the Tamil Language, Chief Prelate of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Chapter, Most Ven. Napana Pemasiri Nayaka Thera said yesterday.
The Thera said this addressing the 24th commemorative service of Ven. Katudeniye Gnanalankara Thera, held at Madaulpatha Udalanka Pirivena, Matale.
He said, “If the Tamil language is introduced into the anthem, it will give rise to further problems in the country.
The anthem was created in the 1940s to represent all ethnicities of Sri Lanka, and it has nurtured the bonds of brotherhood between all races in this country. All these people respect the current anthem. Politicians are the people who are upsetting the equilibrium and attempting to create divisions.”
