Yahoo shuts down email service in China
If your email to Yahoo China's email service bounces back, wonder no more: Yahoo on Monday shut down its email service in China, four months after it announced the closure last April.
A report on TechinAsia.com said Yahoo China email had been given until Sunday to migrate their email to other service providers.
But the report said Yahoo as the search engine is not exiting China, even as new CEO Marissa Mayer tries to do away with its underperforming products.
The report also said e-commerce giant Alibaba, which runs Yahoo China, is trying to entice Chinese Yahoo mail users to sign on to its Aliyun email service.
On the other hand, other users may move over to other popular email services such as Tencent’s QQ Mail or Netease’s 163 Mail.
QQ Mail and 163 Mail have support from the email app in Apple’s iOS platform, the report added. — TJD, GMA News
