As of Sunday, “Gangnam Style”, the dance track by South Korean pop phenomenon Psy, has become YouTube’s most-watched video, beating out American pop star Justin Bieber’s hit ‘Baby’.

Justin Bieber’s song “Baby” was a pop sensation during its release and even after the fact. The song was everywhere and rightfully so-the song was indeed catchy. Every minute, the video received 550 views, now totaling the video with over 804 million views. Along with it being the most watched video on YouTube, it was also the most disliked, with 3.2 million dislikes.

Psy’s “Gangnam Style”, which as caught the attention of the world, including people who have never listened to Korean pop before, giving the video over 820 million views and counting.

With “Gangnam Style” - the video received 4,062 views per minute and is the most liked video on YouTube, with 5.3 million likes. A prediction was made that by December 1st, Psy’s viral, worldwide sensation “Gangnam Style” will be the first video to reach 1 billion views ever.

Over the four months since the “Gangnam Style” video was posted on YouTube, PSY and his electro-pop anthem has inspired nothing short a pop culture phenomenon. The veteran K-pop artist has performed the “Gangnam Style” dance alongside Britney Spears, Madonna and most recently MC Hammer at the 2012 American Music Awards. In early September, the 34-year-old signed to Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy Records, to become label mates with Bieber.

“Gangnam Style” peaked at No. 2 on the U.S. Hot 100, spending seven weeks in the runner-up spot behind Maroon 5’s “One More Night.” PSY was able to climb to the top spot of Billboard’s Social 50 tally in late August thanks to the viral success of “Gangnam.” (Examiner.com)
